It's time.

It's been a long time since I've posted anything on here.  Too long.

Thank you to those who expressed concerns about not being able to see my blog.....even though I hadn't updated in forever. I decided my world needed to be private for a little while, and so sorry to those of you who tried to check on us and felt left out. And thank you to those who wanted to make sure that I knew you still wanted to see us here now and then!

We went through some pretty difficult stuff since the last time I posted and I needed some time to figure out what I was going to do with the blog.  It certainly wasn't anything life-threatening; no financial ruin, no marriage crisis, etc.  No, our life here is pretty quiet and happy and stable.  It's just that some battles have to be fought privately and we will continue to do so for now.

In any case, we are back. 

Healthy, happy, enjoying life in our new home and coming up on our 6th anniversary of being a family. 

I'll never forget the day David proposed to me.  He stopped by that morning before work, just when I would be about to head out the door with Skyler and Kayla to drop them off at the sitter's and head to work. 

He came in with flowers and had the two of them sit on the couch and said he wanted to ask us all something.

Then he got down on one knee and proposed to us.  All of us. 

That's the way it started and that's the way it's always been. 

And here we are, six years later with a little Jackson thrown into the mix to create constant chaos and keep us all on our toes!

I am seriously, the luckiest girl in the world.

Man I miss these guys...........

Summer just isn't the same without Skyler and Kayla around.  It's been two weeks since I kissed them goodbye and it will be another four weeks before I get to snuggle them again. 

I was going through old pictures the other night from when they were very little and found some cute ones to share...

(Notice the classic green shag carpet at my grandparent's house...hard to believe that was actually a popular style once. Ha!)



The only thing better than two children to snuggle is having three!

Right now I'm just trying very hard not to dwell on Skyler and Kayla's absence but to instead enjoy all the one on one time with Jackson.  He is soaking up every minute of it!

Hello Houston!

Isn't Houston a pretty city?

So, we kind of made a big move a few months back and since I'm NOT so great at blogging (much to the dissatisfaction of many family members and even a few friends), I am formally announcing our new city of residence: Houston!

Techincally, we actually live in suburbia within 20 miles of this fabulous city and a mere 30 minute commute to downtown.  In this area, that's considered a walk in the park compared to the commute many others around here face!

The biggest thing I can say about this whole new change for us is that we absolutely love it here.

Love. Love. Love!

Believe it or not, it was not an easy decision to leave West Texas.  I won't go into all the factors that weighed into the decision, but in the end it was our belief that this is where we were supposed to go that was the driving force behind our decision to make this move.

(Not to mention the choice between moving and keeping a job or staying and having no job-again-was sort of a no-brainer.)  

But, it's amazing the blessings that occur when we exercise our faith and allow the Lord to lead us.

So here we are living it up in the big city and I will attempt to share in subsequent posts some pictures of the many adventures we've already had here. 

To sum up in one paragraph or less all of the things that have filled our days (and nights) over the last 6 months, here it goes:

Boxes, boxes, packing, packing. Painting, fixing, cleaning, spackling. Showings, stress, and finally selling, moving time and goodbye telling.  LONG, rainy drive on four hours sleep, two storage units for the junk that we keep.  Crammed in a small apartment with three kids and a beagle, building house because out here the prices are a steal! Watching house get built one step at a time, spending each day at the pool so I don't lose my mind!  Fishing once and beach twice down at Galveston bay, thank goodness for Bonine that saved everyone's day! Aquarium, zoo, shopping trips galore...Ikea, Super Target, who could ask for more? Yummy eats and treats like La Madeline's and Coldstone. Date night on the town made the city feel like home. Delays on the house have not made us too happy....thefts in new contruction areas are just downright crappy! With Skyler and Kayla away for the summer, I'm trying to keep from dwelling on how much that's a bummer.  Jackson's getting spoiled with lots of one-on-one time, which is nice for me too to relax and unwind. So this is the end of this dumb little poem.  Later I'll share some new pics of our home!

New Year's Schmew Year's

This is how we celebrated New Year's:

Correction:  This depicts how David and Jackson celebrated New Year's.

Okay, that's a lie too.

They were both fast asleep *in jammies* in bed. (As opposed to this awesome pic of Jackson from December of last year....he fell asleep eating lunch after church. Full blown snoring and all.)

Back to the point.

David stayed up until all of 9:30pm before declaring that he was headed to bed.  I knew that without any real plans for the evening he would not last long.  I overestimated though figuring he might just break the 10pm barrier. Yeah....didn't happen.

I spent the evening helping my children build a gigantic tent in Kayla's room in which they viewed movies back to back for hours.  

I'm a bit too tall to fit comfortably instead a make-shift tent for that long. So, I spent my time on the couch flipping back and forth between "Keeping up With the Kardashians" and "Animal Hoarders" whenever the Kardashians tipped my vulgarity tolerance level. Which was basically about every two minutes.  But there's just something about being able to watch a family that might just be more dysfunctional than mine! 

But perhaps Animal Hoarders is a better example of that.  Seriously lady, you had over 200 cats and were upset that Animal Control made you limit it down to 85???  I have an idea! Let's limit it down to say, under 5 like most normal people would.  Wouldn't 85 still be considered an UNBELIEVABLE amount of felines in one (presumably) small house? 

Okay. New Year's resolution #527 that I make and most likely will break is "Be Less Judgemental." 

There, now I'm accountable.  

Back to the point -again.

I was honestly touched though by the compassion that Animal Control showed this poor woman as she felt that her children were being wretched away from her. They were very kind and helped her emotionally deal with the whole situation.  

In any case, I learned 2 important things from my New Year's Eve spent in boredom flipping channels on the couch until the ball dropped. 

First, I love my life.  I really, really, love my life.  Complete with a sweet husband who just can't stay up until midnight on a quiet New Year's Eve at home to save his life. Complete with adorable children who the eldest two of which filled my heart with joy when they were just as excited as me to stay up until midnight to ring in the New Year.  And, complete with a high energy, high maintenance three-year-old little boy who made my night enjoyable by crashing into a deep (snoring) sleep by 9:00pm.  

The second important thing I learned? 

Don't be like the Kardashians or crazy animal hoarders. 

They're  all pretty nasty.

Proof

Here is a little proof that we did celebrate Halloween this year:

We went to the Trunk-or-Treat in Odessa so that I could spend a little time with all three children (including the older two since Halloween AGAIN fell on their father's weekend).  So glad it will be on a Monday next year!!

We had a pink cowgirl, an Army guy, and a Thomas (again) with a pumpkin hat and double ear infection.

We did actually manage to carve pumpkins and even remembered to light them twice!

Unfortunantly, I almost forgot one evening to blow them out and the middle pumpkin was scorched quite badly as a result....thankfully Jackson didn't really notice, but the smell was pretty awful!

And here is some proof for Muzzie-

I got a cute phone call from my dear mother yesterday in which she asked, "Hey, do you still have your dog?"

I assured her that even though I have a difficult time keeping my blog current, we do indeed still have our dog.

He is an adorable little beagle named Skipper and we love him!
